Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
I remember when my daughter was just a tiny little thing, she was so perfect. I was so overwhelmed with joy when I had her. She was my everything, I didn’t think I could love someone so much until I had her. One night, or many nights, I would sit in her room, holding her tiny, fragile body in my arms, and rock her back and forth and sing to her sweet lullabies. Or sometimes I would sneak into her room at night while she was asleep and just stare into her perfect little face and be in awe that she was mine. Holding her in my arms was one of my favorite things to do. To me it didn’t matter that she had me up all night with her, fussing and crying, I just loved singing to her. Oh, the joy I would feel when I would see her looking back at me with her big beautiful black round eyes and she would just smile as I sang to her, it was breathtaking!
Can you think of anything more wonderful and more humbling that our Lord and Savior too, sings and rejoices over us. And He not only sings over us, but He also delights in us. Yes, He does! To me that is just so comforting to know. As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so our Lord sings over us a love song so pure and sweet it can only be measured by heaven’s standards. When I think of this scripture in Zephaniah, I think of my God holding me, just the way I held my daughter. But not only does God sings over us, but He rejoices over us!
The word rejoice is translated from a Hebrew word that Strongs defines as:
A primitive root; properly to spin around (under the influence of any violent emotion), that is, usually rejoice…: – be glad, joy, be joyful, rejoice.
The Hebrew word means to “spin around under violent emotion,” or basically to dance.
WOW! Can you see that, God holding you in His loving arms, spinning around, dancing over you because He loves you and you are the apple of His eye! Because He delights over you! He doesn't care what you have done, doing, or will do. He still delights in you and loves you and longs to hold you in His hands and dance around heaven with you in His arms, because He loves you!
God is such a forgiving God, a God whose heart is for us and continuously pursues us when we fail Him. Even in anger, he loves us, because His word says, “his anger is only for a moment, but his love for us is FOREVER!” We are so blessed at the thought of a God who searches us and wants to mold us in His very own image.
Do you hear Him? Open your ears to the God who sings over you with love. He wants you to hear the music of love and grace! He's not concerned about what you did, He just wants you to trust that He can change you and cleanse you from everything that is holding you back from falling into His arms. It’s simply breathtaking! Let Jesus love you and sing over you today! Come to Him!!!
