Speaking Psalms 91 into 2024

Walking into 2024 God impressed on my heart to dig deeper into Psalm 91 and to read it daily and speak it into existence over my life and my family's life. And I have started doing just that, and I encourage you to do the same. Psalm 91 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible and it's so comforting to know that God will never leave me alone. I want to share with you 6 Promises of Psalms 91, and I pray that it blesses your heart! Share with your loved ones too, we all need this!!

Throughout the Psalms we see that David refers to God as his fortress, his refuge, and his strength. David faced many physical and spiritual battles throughout his lifetime, and he even saw the hand of God move over his life even when he himself failed God many times. But one thing we see is that God never left him. God always came through for David at just the right time.

Did David experience setbacks? Yes!

Did David experience rejection? Yes!

Did David experience suffering? Yes!

Did David experience dangers and challenges? Yes!

But did David give up? NO! Did he want to? Oh yes… many times, he wanted to.

Throughout the Psalms we see David one day up praising and worshiping God on high, and the next he is begging God to save him because he can’t take it anymore. Y’all, David was human just like us and felt pain and hurt and all the things we all feel on a daily. But the difference with David is, he had a true revelation of who he was and who his God was. And every time he was in his valley of rejection, or his valley of depression, or his valley of sickness… David ran to his Father God. David cried out to God for deliverance, for comfort, for help in his time of need. And God was there!

You know when life feels like it’s draining you. When life feels like nothing is falling into place, and it feels like one setback after another. Or when there seems to be no time or place to rest, one chapter I can go to in the Bible will always give me that reassurance, it will comfort me and encourage me… is Psalms 91.

So, I want to share with y'all 6 set promises from Psalms 91.

1. God’s presence (vv. 1,2) When we dwell in the Lord, God’s presence will always be with us.

Fear has plagued this world. Even more so since the pandemic. Many have suffered greatly, and chaos has at times literally broken out in parts of the world. I can say that one of my struggles was “fear”. Fear of failure. Fear of being alone. Fear of getting in a wreck. Fear of someone coming into my home and snatching one of my kids or grandkids. Fear of something happening to my kids. Fear of what others thought about me. It was crazy. Fear is a monster, and it will eat you alive if you don’t get rid of that spirit of fear. Fear brings anxiety and sickness to our body. Fear causes delusion and depression.

Fear is a tool the devil uses against us to make us miserable and destroy our lives. It begins as a thought and then creates emotions that can rule us and ruin us. But I love this passage because it tells us if we dwell in the secret place of the Most High, we can say God is our refuge and fortress. We can be sure that God will protect not only us, but our family and loved ones. We have access yall, to this secret place, where we can find peace in the middle of all the chaos and it’s our responsibility that we dwell there and not only dwell there, but we point everyone we meet to that secret place so they themselves can find refuge and shelter through their personal storms too. And that secret place is only found in God... in Christ Jesus. So, we know one thing starting out … The secret to survival is to "dwell in the shelter of the Most High," to "abide in the shadow of the Almighty."   And to dwell means: To live or stay as a permanent resident; reside... And we do that in Christ Jesus! Amen!

2. God’s Protection (vv3,4) God will keep you safe.

Psalm 91:3-4 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and [b]buckler.

The imagery that David uses in this passage gives us believers a great sense of security and hope. Just the image of God covering us with his feathers is so comforting. It’s like a hen that covers her chicks under her wings to keep them from predators or from harm or even to stay warm or just for comfort. God wants us to snuggle up with him. Just like our children when they were small, sometimes... Even my kids are grown and still come up to me while I'm sitting on the couch, and they will struggle with me. It’s a feeling like no other. God shields us from the threats we face and even the emotional chaos our lives can cause. Our trust (and faith) will be tested daily, and we all want to feel safe from the attack(s) of our enemies … as well as the enemy. And it’s only under the wings of God can we be protected. God’s faithfulness means we can count on his protection. Amen!

3. God’s Peace (vv5,6) You don’t have to feel insecure in unknown territory.

Psalm 91:5-6 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

Have you ever woken up knowing that no matter what the day brought, you were going to be fine? You were gonna be ok? That kind of peace is such a wonderful feeling. We know it when we have it, and we all want more of it. Right! But not every day is like that right? There are days when we feel insecure, we feel fear, we feel uncertain of what the future is gonna be or hold. So, no matter what we are going through we can be sure that God is watching over us. He is protecting us, and we can keep our peace. So, we can live every day knowing everything is gonna be alright, we just have to humble ourselves and allow God to run our daily lives.

Remember ladies, if we aren’t eating daily from God’s word and receiving His truth as our identity and lifestyle, we’ve stepped out of the Secret Place and opened the door for the enemy’s visit. He doesn’t even have to knock. The door is standing wide open and he can come and go as he wills. He cannot come into the Secret Place because darkness cannot abide in the LIGHT. We weren’t designed to carry the weight of the world, but God can. And we can have the peace of God every day of our lives. It’s ours forever! Dontcha' dare let the devil steal your peace!

4. God’s perspective: God gives an eternal view of life that keeps you steady (vv 7-10)

Psalm 91:7-10 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

Our view of God will determine our relationship with God. How we see God is how we are gonna Serve God. We see God as little, He’s gonna be little in our life, we see Him big we gonna see Him big in our life. God wants us to be confident in Him and have the right perspective on the world and in Him. He wants us to not live in fear or worry and for us to realize that we are a daughter of the Almighty God and that we can call on Him and talk to Him about anything without being intimidated. God wants to share his perspective with you, and he does that through the Bible, through His word. God’s perspective helps us understand the big picture—the reasons behind what he does and what happens in this world.

Without God’s perspective in our life, life can be full of constant frustration. You spend your days asking questions you can’t answer: Why is this happening to me? What is the purpose of this? What is the meaning of life? Why? Why? Why? But until we realize that the answers to all those questions are found in God’s perspective through God’s word. Look to Him for everything you need. Trust God to provide for you, protect and guide you, and give you His peace. Trust God when He says, “A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.” Trust Him!

5. God’s Provision Regardless of your needs, God will meet them. (vv 11-13)

Psalm 91:11-13 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall [c]bear you up, Lest you [d]dash your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

The duty of every believer in every age is to trust God and to obey His commandments. Sometimes the needs in our lives seem to mount up high. Maybe you're waiting, or have been praying, for help, for a breakthrough. Maybe you feel like it's been slow in coming, or that you can't see a way out of your current situation. Maybe the needs seem to far outweigh the reality you're living in. You've lost hope, feel alone in the struggle, and the weight of stress seems too hard to keep shouldering. Whatever the need - physical, spiritual, financial, emotional, relational - His Truth reminds us that God will keep us in all our ways, we just have to keep trusting Him and having faith that it’s already done. Stay close to God and dwell on His love and promises, and worship Him for who He is, and you’ll experience supernatural provision, and trust that God will keep us in all our ways.

6. God’s Power In adversity, God delivers and helps us (vv. 14-16)

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

Just in these last few scriptures alone… God gives us six amazing promises of protection. Watch and Read…

  1. First promise: The promise of deliverance.

  2. Second promise: He will set us securely on high because we have known His name.

  3. Third promise: Because we have this close, intimate relationship with God, and dwell within His protection, we can call on Him and He will

  4. The fourth promise is perhaps the most comforting to me. God will rescue me.

  5. Fifth promise: Revolves around our willingness to let God fill our empty souls.  If we will come to Him (and dwell in His shelter); let Him fill all those empty spaces within us; allow Him to fulfill His call on our lives, then He will give us a long life in which we will be well satisfied, fulfill our every need.

  6. Sixth and final promise of Psalm 91: He promises that we will see His salvation.

The fact that this promise comes at the very end of the Psalm tells us that we will see salvation face-to-face during and after our long, satisfied life.  This promise secures our future in heaven, but we must start now.  Salvation is more than our ticket to heaven! Salvation is offered to us in the forms of health, healing, deliverance, protection and provision.  But note that the Psalm says we will see God's salvation!  He is giving us His health, His healing, His deliverance, His protection, His provision.  What more could we ask for? I pray that this NEW YEAR will bring you all this and more! Make a commitment to God that you will read, study, speak, and declare Psalm 91 over you and your family and believe it to come to pass!!!

Hugs & Blessings,

Crystal T.
